In 2001 the comedy film of Joe Dirt was made.  It stars David Spade, Dennis Miller, and Christopher Walken.  Spade plays the lead role.  David Spade wrote it.

Joe Dirt wasn't much of a success with the critics. It has an average rating of three out of 10 and one of the well-known multiple review sites. Roger Ebert and his partner Richard Roeper both gave the movie a resounding thumbs down. They called it strained and predictable and said the storyline was absurd. However, they did complement Spade's performance.

It earned over $25 million in the US market. That means Joe Dirt movie was profitable. Its budget was only $16 million.  It was the top movie in New Zealand.  However Spade said New Zealand was the size of a convenience store.  Dennis Miller has a radio show where he frequently talks about the movie.  He has conducted interviews with Spade about the movie.

Strange character Joe Dirt works as a janitor at a Los Angeles radio station.  Joe is bullied in front of a producer who realizes Joe could be a hit on the air.  He decides to create a series of interviews for Joe.  The movie is Joe telling his story.

Joe Dirt tries to get the attention of Brandy.  Her dog dies, so Joe decides to look for his parents.  He travels far and wide.  He has many strange adventures.  He meets some weird people.  To fund his travels he takes on part time jobs.  The radio station job is one.

Eventually Joe Dirt gives up a search and returns to Brandy. He finds out that she knows that his parents were killed while he was visiting the Grand Canyon. His whole search has been in vain.

Joe Dirt doesn't realize that the listeners love him.  He's become a media sensation.  A lady calls him claiming to be his mom.  She's trying to use him.  Her goal is to sell figures based on him.  She is his mother, but she's only interested in money.

At the end of the movie Joe Dirt tries to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. Someone ties him with a bungee cable to save his life.  But he hits his head on the way back up.  The people he met on his journey stay with him until he wakes up.  Now he has a family.  It's pretty bad.  That's why critics didn't like it.

The sad thing is Joe Dirt isn't the worst movie ever made.

If you ask an American about a satellite TV provider he/she is sure to mention DirectTV or DISH Network; the popularity of these two companies comes from their incredible extent, since figures indicate around ten million users for each of them. Prices for services are indeed very competitive and each satellite TV service provider needs to offer something besides their common programs. Thus, all sorts of installation discounts, free access to premium programs as bonuses, flexible pricing per package, pay-per-view options and even packages designed for minorities are part of the market domination campaign the above-mentioned competitors use to their advantage.

How can one decide for one satellite TV provider or another? First of all, as attractive as the program package may seem, you have to be realistic about the amount of time you and your family spend in front of the TV. First time buyers do enjoy great offers, but after a minimum period you get to pay the same monthly fee like everybody else. Hence, think about your needs and see how they are met by one satellite TV provider or another. Beware the fact that it sometimes happens for the prices to be incredibly small at the beginning just to rise unexpectedly afterwards.

Try to prevent such unpleasant things from happening by paying attention to all the fine print in the contracts and on the packages and always keep an eye open on what you sign. Reviews of a satellite TV provider influence the choice of an undecided potential customer. The main American providers are the subject of very comprehensive comparisons conducted online by professionals or individual customers. Last but not least, The installation of the service needs to be supervised by an authorized local representative. Don't strike any deal unless you know what total costs to expect.

It is even possible for the satellite TV provider to cover the costs of the installation, as one further marketing means of attracting more users. Last but not least a further dilemma to solve is whether to go for a cable or a satellite TV provider. Many people try to have more freedom in program selection than they are being offered by cable companies. Such benefits only come with the online access to satellite TV channels or by subscribing to a satellite TV provider. The costs for cable and satellite are not that different, but many users claim that the video and sound quality is superior when you have your own dish on the roof or balcony.

DISH Network or DirectTV are the names to come to one's mouth when asked about a satellite TV provider; the reputation of these two companies comes from their incredible extent, since figures indicate around ten million users for each of them. Prices for services are indeed very competitive and each satellite TV service provider needs to offer something besides their common programs. Thus, discounts for installation, trial periods for premium programs, flexible pricing per package, pay-per-view options and international channel programing for minorities are a few elements of the market domination campaign the above-mentioned competitors rely on to gain terrain.

The fee reduction is limited and then you get to pay the same monthly fee like everybody else. Hence, think about your needs and see how they are met by one satellite TV provider or another. Sometimes small prices are a trap to lure subscribers who afterwards have the surprise of being charged a lot higher fees than expected.

Requiem For a Dream is a 1978 novel and film released in the year 2000. The novel was written by Hubert Selby Jr., while the film was directed by Darren Aronofky. It won an Academy award for best actress for Ellen Burstyn. This article details both the movie and the novel.

Since the Requiem For A Dream novel came first it comes first here too. Four people feature prominently.  These are Harry Marion, Tyrone and Sara.  Harry and Marion are a couple.  Tyrone is their friend.  Harry's mother is named Sara.  Their dreams dominate their lives.  They all become addicted to something in the pursuit of their dreams.  Sara wants to be on television.  When a casting manager hints that she may receive a TV role, she begins taking diet pills.  She ends up hospitalized.  The other three become heroin dealers.  But like many dealers they become users.  Every character does badly.

The movie focuses more on Sara and Harry, but still includes Marion and Tyrone.  It's the same as in the novel.  True to the novel all the action takes place over the course of summer, fall and then winter.

Sara spends the summer watching infomercials.  She also overeats.  She begins to become concerned over her weight.  But her life gains new purpose when the producers of the infomercial call her to tell her she may be on the infomercial.  She thinks about wearing a red dress that used to fit her when Harry graduated.  She has to diet to do it.  When that doesn't work she sees a doctor who prescribes amphetamines.  They are addicting.  It makes her grind her teeth.

Harry and Tyrone begin a career as drug dealers. Their goal is to one day be able to afford a pound of pure heroine. Marion believes that the money Harry makes as a drug dealer will allow her to purchase a clothing store. Tyrone simply wants enough money to earn a life off the street.

Sara's addiction is even worse in the fall.  She's taking more and more, but it isn't working.  She hallucinates about appearing on the infomercial.  The police bust Harry and Tyrone.  All of the money they have made goes to bail.  Not only does it become increasingly difficult to find quality heroin, but they themselves use more and more of what they purchase.

The end of the Requiem For A Dream movie is very sad. In winter things spiraled to their lowest point. Harry ends up in the hospital after falling off the roof of a building, Sara is institutionalized, Tyrone is in jail, and Marion is hopelessly addicted to heroin. Everyone except Harry ends up hallucinating a fantasy world.

Requiem for a Dream is pretty accurate in its depiction of addiction.

Do you have any bushcraft skills? If you were to become lost in the wild do you have the skills necessary to erect a shelter, start a fire, locate some water and find some nutritious food? And would you know what is safe to eat?

Living, as we do, in our supermarket served modern world many people have lost touch with the sources of their food. Some children grow up in our modern cities without any hands-on experience of where their food actually comes from. I once taught a young guy who didn't know that burgers were made from beef. I don't know what he thought they were made out of.

If you are lost in the wild there are no all-night supermarkets selling soda and snacks. It's a useful skill to be able to recognise what is safe to eat and what is potentially harmful. If you are a fan of the Bear Grylls survival television programs you will be familiar with how he makes a point of catching and eating whatever is available wherever he finds himself. Something you may have noticed is that Bear is never without his bushcraft knife, an essential survival tool.

Wild berries can be a valuable form of food. Our ancient ancestors would have gathered nuts, berries and grain when in season and eaten these routinely. But some berries can be deadly poisonous.

For example, Yew berries are the cause of the greatest percentage of berry poisonings each year. They are bright scarlet in color, about 8 to 10mm in diameter with an indentation at the base. The berries look deceptively appetising which has resulted in many young children being taken to the emergency room.

Another berry that results in many visits to the hospital emergency room each year is Deadly Nightshade. The clue is in the name, not in the appearance. This plant, also known as Belladonna, produces sweet tasting berries in September that have lead to many children visiting the hospital.

Insects can be a valuable source of energy, but many find the thought of eating them distasteful. Most insects are actually edible, but some taste better than others. Many species are actually very low in fat and high in protein.Wood grubs, mealworms, grasshoppers and crickets are all a safe bet for supper. You will find that most insects taste better when barbecued and you can even grind them up to make an insect flour.

Game, including birds, rabbits and other small animals is always good to eat, but can be enormously difficult to catch. This is particularly true if you are lost in the wilderness without any form of weapon. In these circumstances some form of trap will possibly provide the best chance of catching an animal.

You'd be excused for thinking that you will never find yourself lost in the wild, seriously thinking about a supper of insects and berries. But this really could happen to you. All you have to do is stray from the main path through a forest, as I once did, and before you know it you are disoriented and lost. That's when you'll wish you'd paid more attention to Ray Mears Extreme Survival.
