The story of Joe Dirt begins with the pursuit of his love interest Brandy. Joe decides to try to find his parents after Brandy loses her dog. He begins a journey across America. He does a lot of weird things. He meets some weird people. He also takes on many odd jobs. The radio station job is one.
Eventually Joe Dirt gives up a search and returns to Brandy. He learns that she always knew his mother and father had died. The search was for nothing.
The listeners love Joe Dirt. He's become a media sensation. A woman claiming to be his mother calls him. But it's just a trick. She wants to sell Joe Dirt figures. She is his mother, but she's only interested in money.
At the end of the movie Joe Dirt tries to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. An officer saves him with a bungee cord. But he hits his head on the way back up. He awakens with all the people he's met surrounding him. He has finally found a family. That's pretty silly. Critics hated it for good reason.
